" I was very lucky and found some pallets left in the woods by some construction workers and all I did was to bring them home and clean them in the shower. Since they had been lying there for a while they had the natural dark look that you can see in the picture. However, if you manage to get hold of some pallets that have not been given the wear and tear of mother nature I believe it should be possible to recreate the look by painting them with drift-wood stain.
